Classification of alkaloids

Classification of Alkaloids. Opio, Quina (Cinchona), Tropane, Xanthines, Ergot, Rauwolfia, Veratrum, Vinca.

The alkaloids can be classified in different ways according to:

• Its botanical source.
• Its structure.
• Its pharmacological action.

For the purposes of Pharmacognosy studies is convenient to classify them according to the first source and the basis of their chemical structure in order to group them as follows:

• Opium Alkaloids (Papaver Somniferum)

• Cinchona Alkaloids (Cinchona Succiruba)

• Tropane Alkaloids

• Ergot Alkaloids
  

• Rauwolfia Alkaloids
